They said it, as if they didn't know that one day, they would die and the world would not bat a lash. Not a single person would care, mourn or cry. The barrel rats were an infestation, a mass of scrabbling bodies all fighting to survive. They knew better then to let their hopes be high, or their hearts be as soft as their hide.
