You know why? Actually, you don't, anyways. Y/n, like a normal person, tries to figure out why mystery guys in masks keep on visiting their house at night and trying to kill them. (...kinda? I'm not sure.) Oh I think I forgot to mention, Y/n meets this dude called Tim who kind of accidentally kidnaps them. Oh, and Y/n can see the dead and maybe-bring back the dead --- I think you may have figured that this story will contain rather mature themes, no nasty stuff though don't worry it's mainly just fighting, strong language, throwing up, murder, gore, panic attacks (maybe), hallucinations and god knows what else. I wouldn't recommend you this book if you are uncomfortable with any of those things I just listed. --- By the way, the y/n in the book will be around 13-15 they do not have any particular features and you can interpret their gender however you like.
