After months (or maybe even years) of unspoken tension and closeness, Buck finally gathers the courage to tell Eddie how he feels. He confesses one evening after a particularly intense rescue - maybe when emotions are high, and the adrenaline hasn't worn off. But Eddie, caught off guard, gently turns him down. Maybe Eddie says, "Buck, you're my best friend, and I love you - but not like that." Or perhaps Eddie is still working through his own feelings or fears and just isn't ready to face them.
