The civil services exam is basically a test to choose suitable administrators. It tests the candidate right from the stage when one starts the preparation. A candidate should have the right frame of mind and the will power to get success in the exam. A proper action plan is needed for the preparation itself since he /she will be tested for some essential qualities like power of retention, clarity of concepts, ability to identify the correct alternatives with efficiency and accuracy. All this requires a quick decision making power. CSAT which is gateway to civil services exam. It includes two objective type question papers of two hours time duration and two hundred marks for each paper. First one is General Studies and the other is General Aptitude Paper. In new pattern, stress has been given on language skills and analysis and decision making capacities, so work on these on a consistent basis as these are skills that are developed over years and not just in a few months. It would be advised to start focusing on your problem solving and language skills as soon as you decide to take these exams. Paper 1 includes questions from general studies. It includes both static and dynamic part of general studies. Paper 2 includes mathematics, reasoning, analytical ability, and interpersonal skills. Unlike paper 1 which has a static part, paper 2 is dynamic in various sense.

Since the introduction of Ethics Paper in IAS Mains General Studies as GS Paper 4, Civil Services aspirants are in a dilemma. Many have heard a hundred times about the importance of taking small or micro notes for the IAS exam. But how do you do it in a manner that the notes are concise, effective, readable in a short time, all at once. After all you will need to go through these small notes for IAS exam before the preliminary and/or the Mains in just a few days. The first step is to maintain a dedicated register, book or even take down notes on pages or flip cards if you are comfortable with this method. Next, divide the pages by months or topics. In a particular month you could write events topic wise on each page or you could divide the register topic wise, like some pages devoted exclusively for Economy, some for Sports etc. I prefer the first approach and will explain it with the help of the illustration below.

But after each result actually we see that many students are unable to clear language papers. Even some candidates await there result positively and actually they did very well at there exam but finally language papers create a big hurdle. Prepare general way. Select topics like global warming, social change, and development-oriented topics, globalization, terrorism, democracy’ and prepare on these’ topics in general way. Particular topics won’t be asked in the exam. But whatever you have studied can be used in anyway while writing essay. Read all the topics of essay at least once, and then select which topic you feel comfortable. Then take last page of your answer booklet and note down all the points you know so that you will not forget the main points while you writing the essay.
