Als er sie im Alter von nur 16 Jahren verwandelte tat er dies nur da sie in Lebensgefahr schwebte. Denn sie erkrankte damals an einer schweren Krankheit an ihrem Herzen. Carlisle und Joycelyn reisten viel herum, er studierte an den verschiedensten Universitäten und sie ging zur Schule oder erlebte immer mal wieder neue Kulturen. Irgendwann trafen sie dann auf die Volturi, die sehr angetan von den beiden waren. Vorallem wollten sie Joycelyn in ihrem Kreis haben da sie eine Starke Gabe hat. Carlisle und sie blieben eine geraume Zeit dort. Bis sich die Wege der beiden trennten , Carlisle ging zurück nach Amerika und Joycelyn reiste weiterhin durch die Welt. Der Kontakt zu den Volturi blieb jedoch konztant. Auch mit ihrem Vater war sie in Kontakt. Sie kehrte erst vollends nach Amerika zurück als ihr Vater von sich gab sich verliebt zu haben. Esme war ihrer Meinung eine ganz besondere Frau, sie akzeptierte sie als ihre Mutter. Sie lebte nun wieder bei ihrem Vater und auch bei Esme , doch es zog sie auch immer wieder zu ihren 'Verwandten' dem Denali Clan. Auch mit ihren Neuen Geschwistern verstand sie sich ausgezeichnet. Doch durch einen Zwischenfall zwischen Ihrem Vater und ihr ging sie. Durch ständigen Kontakt zu ihren Geschwistern und ihrer Mutter wusste sie wie es ihnen geht. Leben tut sie bei den Denali' in Alaska. Als Victoria und ihre Armee in Forks angreifen wollen kehrt sie zurück. Und dann lernt sie auch noch diesen einen Menschen kennen.
