"Someone's mother, someone's daughter. Holds your hands through plastic now, Doc I think she's crashing out. And some things you just can't speak about..." "Aviana Campbell, you've noticed her edge, I presume?" he waits for her to nod before continuing, "Capitol manufactured venom runs through her blood vessels from where a snake mutation bit her during her games." They watch as she throws cleaver after cleaver, each one with meticulous precision and brutal force. The projections pixelate almost rhythmically, one after another as she hits their abdomens and crania in turn. "Didn't she receive an antidote from a sponsor?" Katniss asks in confusion, she had watched snippets of the young girls games. Beetee hums, "Yes, the antidote prevented her from dying...the Capitol didn't bother to take away the side effects however. Hallucinations, voices in her head, anger. They've manipulated her perspective of reality to make her more entertaining...that girl has been groomed into the perfect Capitol weapon from the inside outwards." Pre Hunger Games - Mockingjay

Penelope Black has never had the luxury of stability. Bouncing between foster homes, the only constant in her life has been her older brother, Charlie, and her little sister. For years, she's learned to rely on herself, keeping people at arm's length to avoid the pain of losing them. But when an incident forces her to transfer schools, she finds herself in unfamiliar territory-new faces, new expectations, and one person she absolutely should not be noticing. John Kavanagh has everything Penelope never had-a loving home, parents who support him, and a future mapped out in front of him. As the school's star rugby player, he's used to the attention, but he's never given much thought to Charlie Black's younger sister. Until now. When Penelope steps into his world, she's a storm he never saw coming. She's guarded, sharp-tongued, and determined to keep her distance, but there's something about her that draws him in. The more he tries to understand her, the more she pushes back, hiding behind walls built to protect herself from the very thing John wants to give-safety, trust, and maybe something more. But Penelope knows better than to believe in fairy tales. Happy endings don't exist for girls like her. And with secrets she can't share and a past that refuses to let her go, falling for her brother's best friend might just be the most reckless mistake she's ever made. ----- john kavanaghx fem!oc ©liawrit3ss
