On the night the particle accelerator is supposed to be turned on at S.T.A.R. Labs, there's a storm and the accelerator explodes. Both Barry and Destiny were in the lab catching up on work since Barry just got back from Starling City. They both get struck by lightning and end up in comas. When they wake up they have changed.
