Mallory has a mission, a purpose, an end in sight. She doesn't need fun or distractions. She's driven and focused to the point of inattention to any and all things going on around her. And that's how it happens. One moment she's checking her mail before heading to her last class of the day, and the next she's staring at the remains of her emotional support coffee all over her shirt, the floor, and the handsome neighbor she's never even noticed until today. His presence in her life is a nuisance and the absolute last thing she would have wanted, but maybe, just maybe, he might be something she needed. __________ Open Novella Contest (ONC2026), prompt 19: when you accidentally spill coffee on someone, the moment that should've ruined your day becomes the beginning of a surprising and life changing friendship. I told myself I wasn't going to do it, I wasn't going to attempt two novellas at once when I have so many other things started. But clearly the muse is strong and the will is weak.

All of her life, Iyan Vesper was told, "Do not enter the Vetiti. Faeries will steal you away." She didn't believe them. She should have. Faeries roam the Vetiti and the lands beyond. They are of two natures; dark and light. The Day Faeries draw their strength from the sun. They are said to be beautiful and gentle. The Night Faeries relish darkness and moonlight. They are cruel and cunning. Humans are safe from them as long as they stay away from the forest, but that is no longer an option. Humans are disappearing every day. There is chaos and unrest. Someone must discover the truth. Warning: This book, while being a work of fiction, still deals with real elements. There will be chapters dealing with abuse, depression, gore, PTSD, and other topics which some might find triggering. I will not go into overly explicit detail with these topics. Lena Harris doesn't do messy. She deals in information and observations, small gaps and mistakes that can be leveraged to make problems go away. She gets her jobs done quickly, cleanly, and efficiently, and then she moves on, never dwelling on the past or worrying about anything beyond the next operation. And that's the way she likes it. Until her boss assigns her to the messiest operation she's ever faced. Now her carefully built up professional distance is collapsing around her, and she doesn't know how to hold it up- or if she even wants to anymore. __________ Open Novella Contest (ONC2026), prompt 33: It doesn't take long before everything in your life spins out of control. One moment you're a secret assassin, and the next you've somehow been hired as a nanny and you're not entirely sure how it happened. ONC Round Two winner

The last thing Maya wanted was to get caught up in a rivalry within the underground world. Mason, her childhood friend, was supposed to be the one she brought home. But some disasters don't destroy you. Some look at you like you're the only thing in a burning room worth saving. And she's starting to realize... she might be his disaster too. #ONC26 #No. 51

A voice said blankly from the other end of the class. I looking around and found him flipping through a book lazily. "What are you? Five?" He looked half way up revealing his forest green eyes which was slightly hooded due to his brown messy curly hair which fell over them. The class busted out laughing making poor Henry's smile droop noticeably and that did it. I may not like this dude of a Henry, but that doesn't mean I won't say anything. "That's enough!" Professor Everett warned. "Get a life" I mumbled. "Like yours? Yeah, I'll pass," he scoffed and the class Uuued. "Jealousy is a disease bro, I hope you get well soon." I sighed dramatically and the class Uuued once more. "That's enough you two!" "Me jealous of you? Bless your delusional heart" he cooed. "I said that's enough!" Professor Everett warned silencing us. "Mr Diávolos apologize this instant" "But..." he tried to protest. "Now" he said leaving no room for argument. "Fine, I'm sorry" he mumbled with a scoff. Then Professor E looked at me expectingly. With a sigh, I said "I'm sorry for the mean, awful... and accurate things I said" and the class giggled. "What?!"
