"You know it's against the law to lie to a police officer, right, Miss Mills?" Silence hung like a thick smoke as Lane's tongue stuck to the roof of her mouth. Officer Casey's tone hadn't changed, but something in his gaze had. "I don't know what you want me to say, I'm sorry." Lane's voice was close to a whisper. They passed a gas station she didn't recognize. The inside was dark, like it had been closed for a long time. Lane's chest tightened. Something felt very wrong. "Where are we going?" She asked finally, voice tighter than she meant it to be. That earned her a sharp and fleeting glance, the corner of his mouth turning up like he was in on a joke she wasn't. "Don't worry. I'll get you where you need to go." Lane didn't answer. Because she no longer believed him. ~ All Lane is trying to do is survive in a world that's already failed her. After a childhood spent bouncing between homes, a steady job, a place to lay her head, and a beater to take her from Point A to Point B were the small things she'd fought for. Lane was trying -- she really was. Her life was finally hers, and she intended to keep it that way. But of course, as the saying goes, "Men plan, God laughs." All it took was a glance. Lane froze. And then she ran. It wasn't supposed to be her problem. But the moment those eyes caught hers, she was thrust into a world she'd always tried to avoid. And she'll have to do more than stay quiet to make it out alive. ________________________________________ Completed ✔️ _________________________________________ PREVIOUSLY 'THE PRICE OF SILENCE' Title changed 06/09/2026 Highest Rankings: #1 - Resilience {08/06/2026}

𝐀𝐍 𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐆𝐈𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐊 book one of the did you series presented by © 𝐍𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐆𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐒𝐓 𝐃𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐄 and 𝐃𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐋𝐀𝐇 - two students who supposedly hate each other, with a history of pranks and rude jabs at each other for no real reason. Neither of them has ever questioned their dynamic and their view of the other, but when thrust together for an assignment both of them need to do good on, dynamics change. But are they strong enough to understand and overcome the past? Where does one even start when describing 𝐃𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐋𝐀𝐇 𝐌𝐀𝐈𝐒𝐈𝐄 𝐇𝐄𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐎𝐍? She is by far the most effortless and perfect human being I've ever seen. Skilled, intelligent and very much disliking me, she walks this earth like it belongs to her. Maybe it does, maybe she's pretending or maybe I just can't see anything else in her than the small picture on Detective Henderson's desk - his precious and absolutely perfect daughter. But it doesn't matter what I think of her, he'd never let me anywhere near her anyway. 𝐃𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐄 𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐒. The biggest prick this town has ever seen, or at least that's what my father says. And he should know, considering most of his overtime hours have a least a little something to do with the Collins family. He's arrogant, cocky but unfortunately also very smart and outwits me almost every single time we see each other. Until he stops fighting me during our project and suddenly turns out... nice??

𝐃𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐄𝐋 𝐅𝐄𝐄𝐋𝐘 is chaos disguised as a boy. Always one bad, thoughtless decision away from trouble and never letting anyone see past the walls he'd built around himself. He's reckless, impulsive and the kind of lad people warn their daughters about. He's always assumed Rugby should be his thing - it's his twin brother's. But Daniel doesn't care about it like Patrick, doesn't let it define him. Instead, he plays when he wants to, shows up when he feels like it and disappears just as easily. He jokes like nothing matters, thinks like consequences don't exist and walks through life as if nothing can touch him. But it does. And he's beginning to realise that Eleanor Biggs isn't something he can laugh off, or shove to the back of his mind and the harder he tries the clearer it becomes. 𝐄𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐍𝐎𝐑 𝐁𝐈𝐆𝐆𝐒 is like sunshine and softness stitched into a person. Warm, bright and endlessly kind. The kind of girl you take one glance at and think you know everything, don't bother looking past the sweet smiles and easygoing personality because you assume that's all it is. She's the youngest in her family, spending her entire life wrapped in cotton-wool, fierce protection and gentle underestimation. She's allowed herself to stay safe and predictable for so long, too long maybe. But with Daniel Feely, nothing's safe and there's absolutely no predictability. And underneath her soft compliance, Eleanor starts to realise maybe safety isn't what she needs - maybe it is to be seen.
