The day Gaia Elessedil was born she was named the future queen of Arborlon. Nobody knew why her grandfather chose her as his heir, but he said that she would change history. When she was growing up she never had much freedom being the future queen, yet she was curious about the world around her. The reason for that was because as a child her grandfather told her stories about the Elven Races and about the old world. She wanted to explore and learn new things but alas she had responsibilities and her people needed her. It wasn't a total loss because as she continued to grow her personality molded her to become a kind, noble princess. Although, one day, her younger sister decides to run the gaunlet and Gaia supports her on this. After Amberle wins strange things start to occur and as it turns out the Ellcrys is dying and only they can save it. But things are never that easy, for the two princesses had to get to safehold with a rover girl and half-elf guy and as things progress she begins to have feelings for the half-elf. Zakara is a sixteen year old Druid/Human, who runs away from her abusive uncle. Her aunt is worried sick and sends someone, that Zakara thought was only a legend, out to find her missing niece. When Zakara discovers her childhood hero is real, she starts to realize that his quests are actually not as exciting as they sound.

When the Ellcrys begins to speak to the elvin princess, she quickly realises it is not for a good reason. It tells her of the arrival of a man named Allanon and that she should help him at all costs. But with the end of the world on the horizon will she be able to look after both her family and Allanon?
