Eli can see and talk to ghosts, but he's learned to ignore them. He has three rules: don't look, don't react, don't engage. These rules have kept him safe and invisible throughout high school.
Then "Thing" attaches to him-a ghost who refuses to follow the rules. She doesn't behave like any he's seen before, and the longer she stays, the more she drains him in ways he can't ignore.
Desperate, Eli turns to the school's two-person Occult Research Club. Malachi, the dramatic president, claims he can sense Eli's "special" aura. Willow, his quiet cousin and the club's only other member, can see spirits but can't communicate with them.
Together, they must uncover why Thing latched onto Eli and what's keeping her from moving on.
But as her forgotten past resurfaces, Eli realizes helping her might mean confronting the same fears he's been running from all along.
