Unrequited love is a terrible, terrible joke for life to play on someone. Thomas, of course, knew this from firsthand experience. His bestfriend, Newt, had been the subject of his desire for as long as he could remember, though Newt had never come close to expressing the same interest. It didn't take Thomas long to realize that watching the person he was hopelessly in love with fall for someone else, someone who wasn't him, also really kinda sucked. A lot. Thomas is getting married

Newt hated social interaction, and he'd never really been the one to say much. Thomas was outspoken and would talk whenever he pleased. Their sarcasm was one of the few things they had in common when they first crossed each other. They never attended the same school, and they'd never have met if it weren't for Newt being at a game he wasn't going to show up at. But they did meet, and it all seemed to have a natural flow of things until the end. An end, however, always needs a beginning. This story is fiction made up by me, any resemblance to real life events are unintentional. Newt and Thomas are not my own characters. They belong to James Dashner.

[EDIT 1] My work is currently undergoing some revisions. I wrote this 5 years ago, and needless to say, some of the dialogue, scenes, wording, and overall feel is quite childish. Not all of it, but some of it. I've decided to revisit my original first story and make it better. The story is definitely much more mature now, and I think everyone will enjoy it better now that the tone has changed to fit the melancholy nature of my story. Thanks in advance. Thomas gets a chance at redemption when he is offered a seemingly impossible task: plant an idea in someone's mind. If he succeeds, Thomas and his fellow gladers will have succeeded in bringing back a long lost friend. But a dangerous enemy anticipates his every move.

Newt is a reserved small boy who's rich British accent draws attention away from his noticeable limp. Thomas is a confident star athlete on the track team who also excels academically. The private campus of Southern New York Glade University is a place for fresh starts and big dreams. Now of course I guess nothing really turns out quite how it is in the movies... Exposed to the real world of heartbreak, secrets, agonizing classes and awkward encounters they both realize that the most important thing that anyone can have is someone to lean on, sometimes in Newt's case, literally.

Losing Newt was too much for Thomas to bear, but what if he doesn't have to let go quite yet? - "I just keep seeing your face looking down at me and-" Thomas stops himself. "No. No, no, you're here." "I am," Newt says, getting serious. "You're okay." "And I thought your letter was the last pep talk," Thomas lets out a small laugh. "I should have known they'd never stop." "It's your fault for being such a bloody mess all the time," Newt jokes. - Takes place after the events of The Death Cure movie.

𝐓𝐎𝐒𝐊𝐀 - a feeling of intense, aching nostalgia or emotional pain, sometimes without a specific cause or an ability to resolve it. ⎯⎯ Even though Newt has known Sander for seven years, he has barely ever exchanged a word with him, let alone acknowledged his presence, while Sander can't seem to get his mind off Newt at all. Unintentionally, they end up in the same college, in the same on-campus dorm. Newt remains ignorant and careless, or perhaps he's too distracted to notice. Too much in his own world. And Newt's world isn't easy to ignore, especially not for Sander.
