You've heard Katniss' side of the story. Now hear Peeta's! Peeta Mellark is the baker's son; the boy with the bread. Peeta never believed he would be chosen to compete in the Hunger Games, especially not against Katniss Everdeen. He's had a crush on her 'ever since he can remember'. But the true extent of his feelings for her haven't been realised, and initially, Peeta will risk anything to survive- even if that means he'll have to return home without Katniss. But as Peeta's time with Katniss increases, so does his affection towards her. Away from home, he has the opportunity to disentangle his complicated web of emotions. However, what he finds may make it harder for him to accept his fate- especially as his one true love seems hell-bent on winning at any cost.

But what if another tribute catches her eye? Can she survive the Hunger Games? Can she figure out her mixed feelings for Cato? From the book: "So I want to know what you think about something. " I say slowly. He looks up curiously. " What is it Katniss? " he asks looking into my eyes. I feel immediately guilty for what I am about to say, especially since he saved my life by giving me bread. "So I have been thinking this over in my head and it seems that this is the only choice I have in order to make it home to Prim." I start. "Katniss?..." He says. He doesn't like what I am saying and I haven't even gotten to the worst part yet. "I know you want to make it back home to your family and I know that you are a part of my District, but I need to make it home to Prim!" I say, tears threatening to fall, I feel awful for what I am doing. Peeta looked extremely worried by this point. "What's wrong? What happened- " I cut him off " I'm... I'm... joining...the careers."

What would have happened if Katniss didn't take Prim's spot in The Hunger Games? Would anything be any different? Would a new story unfold? This is my version. *WARNING: Things have been changed. Don't say I didn't warn you.*
