Dual tragedies bring the Enterprise's command team closer together, but the gap between them grows when Spock discovers something in Jim's mind. This story reboots two TOS episodes: City on the Edge of Forever and Operation: Annihilate!. If you haven't seen them, you might want to before you read this. This story presumes you have a working knowledge of both. This is my absolute favorite of my Trek stuff, packed with all of my favorite tropes! Be advised it contains primarily Kirk/Spock, but there are references to Spock/Uhura, Kirk/Edith, and Kirk/OMC.

Spock had never tried it himself, but knew it was possible through stories and experiences from the Vulcan Elders, and as he moved to Kirk's side he pushed back all uncertainty-this was the only option they had to save the captain's life. "My strength to yours. My will to yours," he muttered ever so quietly, reminding himself of what he was doing. He focused on not intruding into Kirk's mind, instead only allowing the bond to offer him strength and project reassurance; he could hear Kirk's breathing even out. "Spock?" "I'm here, captain."

Spock is a half Vulcan-half human entering his third year at the star fleet academy. Ever since he was a child Spock was bullied for being different, and it would be completely illogical to think this year would be any different. James Tiberius Kirk is a human troublemaker who is transferring to star fleet academy after causing one too many fights in his last academy. He is very bright and is convinced that this year will be his final, despite it being a four year course. With this year their most challenging by far, Spock and Jim will learn to depend on each other more then either if them thought they could ever depend on another. They knew from the first time their eyes met there was a bond, but will it be enough? Kirk and Spock have both come close to gruesome deaths while serving aboard the Enterprise, and it seems their timelines are careening towards an end. Both friends question if giving into their deeper feelings for each other now would be worth the risk of heartbreak, should one of them have to actually go on without the other. Risk, longing, passion and humor (plus Christmas!) all make an appearance in this emotional collection of interactions leading to a K/S mindmeld and detailed intimate scenes in the last chapters. Jim Kirk gets shot by an automated weapon while on an away misson. Instead of injuring or killing him, it deages him. Now Spock and McCoy have to try and fix it, all while caring for 4 year old Jim. This is made harder by the fact that he is terrified of everyone but Spock. The more they watch and listen, the more Spock and McCoy want to find Winona Kirk and make her just as afraid as she has made her son. There is a brief nudity scene in the last chapter. All characters involved in said scene are adults. There are some sexual terms used. However, I do not believe it is enough to change the rating to mature.

Jim wakes from a nightmare of Tarsus. Spock finds him and comforts him, prompting them to confront their feelings for each other.

Humans carried the mark of their soulmate's first touch etched into their skin. A pitch black mark that would turn to rainbow when touched by their soulmate. Vulcans did not have soulmates or soulmarks. And Spock, even with his human half, took after them and did not have a soulmark. This, of course, meant he did not have a soulmate, despite desperately wanting one, right?
