Shannon Cole has always survived by noticing what others miss. Numbers stick. Faces linger. Conversations don't fade. In the hood, that kind of mind doesn't stay unnoticed-it gets used. Shannon has become a quiet resource, passed between crews whenever something needs remembering, calculating, or confirming. He tells himself it's temporary. Just helping. Just staying afloat. Until everyone wants him. As gangs begin circling closer, access to Shannon turns into competition-and then into risk. Because when too many people want what you know, someone eventually decides you're too valuable to share. Tiger Laurent doesn't compete. He decides. Tiger runs things with calm precision, and when he claims Shannon, it isn't curiosity-it's control. Pulled out of circulation and placed under Tiger's watch, Shannon finds himself safer than he's ever been-and more trapped than he imagined possible. Protection blurs into possession. Use starts to feel permanent. And the more indispensable Shannon becomes, the harder it is to tell whether he's being kept alive... or quietly erased.

Six kids in one house, and somehow he still felt invisible. Taye was always working, always stressed, always trying to hold everything together but never really seeing him. The others were the same. Busy. Distant. Like surviving mattered more than anything else. And maybe it did. But that didn't stop it from messing him up. So he learned quick don't ask for anything, don't expect nothing, and don't let nobody get close enough to leave. That's just how he became Kairo. Rude. Distant. Unbothered. Or at least...that's what everybody thought. Now suddenly, things were different. Taye checking on him. Asking questions. Looking at him like he actually mattered. It didn't sit right. "Where was all that before?" Kairo muttered one night, staring up at the ceiling, phone in his hand but not really looking at it. Because care-real care-was something he didn't know how to trust. And that wasn't even the worst part. The worst part...was him. Kairos best friend. The one person who always stayed. Always showed up. Always saw him even when Kairo tried his hardest to push him away. That was the problem. Because Kairo wasn't supposed to feel like this. Not about him.

"This is wrong..." I breathed, but even to my own ears, it didn't sound convincing. My back was pressed against the hallway wall, his body just inches from mine, heat radiating between us. We could get caught. "Then stop me," Everest murmured, his voice tempting and low, swirling around me like smoke. "Tell me to back off. Say the word, and I will." I didn't move or speak. His gaze darkened as a grin crept in. The air between us thickened. It was getting harder to breathe. His fingers brushed along my collarbone, delicately. Then lower-slowly-trailing down to the center of my chest. I shivered beneath his touch. When his hand hovered just above my waistband, his fingertips grazing the fabric, I sucked in a breath. "Being this close to you..." he murmured, his voice turning me on more. His eyes flicked down to where his fingers toyed with the edge of my sweatpants. "Seeing you like this..." he leaned in, his breath brushing my skin, "it drives me crazy." What the hell have I gotten myself into? CONTAINS: bxb, mature themes, strong language, intersex, etc
