In 1939-1945, Ophelia Mariè Baudelaire, a French ballerina studying at the Teatr Wielki, in Warsaw, is caught in the crossfire as the Nazis overrun Poland. Hoping to survive long enough for the nations to make amends, she aids away with the help of her teacher and flees to Berlin, with the intent to reach France. There she's hesitantly taken in by a retired German philosopher who passes her off as his granddaughter. However, residing in enemy land is proven difficult as she's forced to greet her invaders as they gather to witness the fall of France. Will Ophelia manage to return to France and find her family or will she also crumble under the cruel circumstances of war?
