"Everyone has a little bit of evil in them. A sickness that comes out when you're not expecting it. You'd understand that, wouldn't you?"
Lauren Webbs is a student at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. She spends her days going to class, hanging out with her friends, and going for the occasional run. She's happy enough. Normal.
Until one of her friends disappears.
Lauren and her friends report him missing, but the police have little interest in the case. That is, until he's found a week later by a fisherman, floating in Henry Hagg Lake. Everything implodes.
Initially, the police treat it as a crime. A murder. But after weeks of searching and finding nothing, it's ruled a suicide. Lauren doesn't believe it, and neither do the people who really knew him. But there's nothing they can do about a freak accident.
But then another person is found dead.
People from Lauren and her friends' past are dying, and no one can find anything. Not a murder weapon. No fingerprints. Not even a suspect. Besides Lauren and her friends, of course.
Time is running out, and Lauren is beginning to think everyone she loves will disappear.
