The life series were annual games held by Watchers up above. Watchers were the sort of Gods in their world, and they picked people to play a fun game. The fourteen people always played each game, meaning they were brought back to life for each round. After the first game with the new fourteen people, however, they were tired of it. Grian had won and on the train ride home, Jimmy tapped his hands nervously. Grian was his best friend growing up, and he left soon after he won while the others had to wait to take the train home. Scott, Jimmy's partner in the game, sat silently across from him. Jimmy had fallen asleep on the ride home, and when they arrived back into town, Scott stared at him for a minute before leaving without saying anything. It wasn't that he hated Jimmy, but he didn't want to be with him again before the next game. He didn't want to relive the memories of what they lost, what they had seen. No one at home understood the death and horrors. Jimmy awoke to find himself alone and stepped off to see Grian waiting for him. The two caught up with each other, but Grian was now kept busy with others who wanted to hear his story, and Jimmy was left to his home.
