Ten years after graduation, Aspenwood High's Class of 2018 reunites at the city's most luxurious hotel. Bethany Perez, a rising lawyer reeling from a devastating courtroom loss returns home hoping for one simple night of nostalgia, old friendships, and unfinished rivalries. But beneath the glittering ballroom, a secret biotech experiment goes catastrophically wrong. What begins as a breakthrough becomes a nightmare. When something inhuman claws its way into the reunion, the celebration turns into a blood-soaked trap. Cut off from the outside world, former classmates must fight to survive. Not just the horrors stalking the halls, but the secrets, betrayals, and grudges they never left behind. In a night where the past refuses to stay buried, survival will demand impossible alliances. Because at this reunion... not everyone is making it home. ------------------------------------------------ Written for Open Novella Contest 2026 ------------------------------------------------ Prompt chosen is: 59. This is not your average zombie story. This isn't the beginning of an outbreak. There's no group of survivors trying to find a supposed sanctuary. And worst of all, there is no cure. Just a young man counting down how long he has until he turns. But as infected ex-zombie killer Aaron O'Connor slowly loses his humanity, he learns he can communicate with the hordes of the undead known as Deadmen. With the help of a few sentient zombies, Aaron begins uncovering the dark secrets of his safe haven along with the origins of the Deadmen and their violent, super-powered leader. Can he expose the truth before succumbing to his bloodlust? (Credit to @books1524 for the cover. Be sure to check them out!!)

The world didn't end all at once-it unraveled slowly. Quietly. While no one was looking. Neve, a introverted 17 year old, was always good at noticing things. The way her neighbors' pets started vanishing. The way the news anchors stumbled over their words. The way her school suddenly cared about checking students for "fevers" but never offered explanations. Still grieving her mother and lost in the silence of her own home, Neve watches as the world slips further from normal-until the night the power goes out. Until the night she sees a man, gaunt and bloodied, standing in her backyard. Watching her. After that, everything falls apart. As cities burn and the dead walk the streets, Neve is forced from the quiet life she knew into a fractured world ruled by survival, instinct, and impossible questions. Who can be trusted? What do the revenants-the "turned"-still remember? And how much of yourself can you lose before you're no longer human? Alongside Jace, a guarded 19 year old, a boy with his own shadows, Neve walks a path littered with broken people, fading memories, and echoes of a past that refuses to stay buried. Her journal becomes a guide, her sketches a record of what the world used to be-and what might still be worth saving.. She meets people. She loses them. She learns to trust, and she learns to grieve. But most importantly-she survives.

They're not supposed to feel. So why does this one seem... different? Zombies don't just develop feelings... not love, not empathy, not anything. They're mindless, flesh-hungry monsters driven by an unstoppable virus. No mercy, no second thoughts. Just kill or be killed. But somehow, this one isn't like the rest. (Y/N) is a lone survivor in a world overrun by the undead. Every day is a battle to stay alive, to find food, shelter, and some reason to keep going. When she stumbles upon a group of survivors, hope flickers but so does danger. Because something or someone is following her. A stalker. But not a typical one. He's infected. Dead. And yet... he seems to be obsessed with her. Protective. Territorial. Almost like he's in love. How is that even possible? Can a zombie really develop feelings or is something far darker at play? One thing's for sure is this apocalypse is about to get a whole lot bloodier. ⚠️ Warning: Contains graphic violence, blood, adult language, and some strong scenes. Reader discretion is advised. [Book 3] People say things can change drastically in just a couple years. I couldn't agree more. In just a few years I went from a regular kid in high school, to Ruler of a zombie species. Of course for everyone else, it was much more than a few years, it was three hundred to be precise. Once the Crawlers wiped themselves out all that long ago, we thought it was over, that Humans would regain control of the planet and things would soon go back to normal. We were wrong. After another man tried to wipe out the human race, it was made apparent that even the original Crawlers may not have died out. They're more illusive than their ancestors, it is unclear whether this entails their danger or not.
