Her cold lips brushed over the nape of Laura's throat, teeth dragging against skin in a playful manner. Carmilla gently pushed her against the sofa, climbing atop her lap to straddle her hips, effectively pinning her in place. Her hair fell like a veil over Laura as she leaned forward, tracing her tongue over her collarbone and down to her navel, wrenching open her nightgown. The fabric teared unceremoniously, falling apart as she ran her hands down her sides. Laura flinched, sitting up right in shock as she grasped at her gown, attempting to close it, but Carmilla quickly pulled her hands back from the fabric, her grip tight around her wrists. Her eyes seemed to gleam in the low light as she pressed a chaste kiss to her hip. "You'll be obedient, won't you?" ~ Laura Bennett is beside herself with grief. Having lost her only friend Bertha Rheindfelt, she finds herself in the unwanted company of Carmilla. A young woman who claims to have known Bertha during their college years. While Laura remains doubtful and perhaps resentful towards the notion that Bertha had such a secret friend, her father insists Carmilla stay with them in their castle to pass the summer. It isn't long before strange things occur. Laura is plagued with nightmares and sleep walking. Notes ______ This is not only a modern retelling of the 1872 story Carmilla by Joseph Thomas Sheridan Le Fanu, but a retelling in my style of writing. Therefore, certain characters may not exhibit the same personality traits or knowledge as those in the original work, although I tried to stick to the original as best I could where necessary. Her manner of speech was contagious, and Laura ended up speaking the same way she did. To remember Carmilla by, Laura never let go of the habit.
