Because of that, he has killed all of his human pets because of Aleksandr getting close to them, but that's on purpose to make things interesting. In him killing his pet he spent millions on for Aleksandr, that makes their bond stronger. That was supposed to be the same case for Damon, until nothing Aleksandr does works on him - or so he thinks. Making Aleksandr become more interested in him the longer the tension grows, Lucifer angrier because of his increased interest in his human pet, and Damon having to protect himself and his heart not just for him; but for the promise to his kind. To not fall in love with a vampire, despite their taste for you.
