As if that is not enough, her dearest friend Eloise had found out her identity as Lady Whistledown and had broken off their friendship not without saying harsh and hurtful words towards her. Colin continues his tour with a trip to Italy. However, when his letters to his dear friend, Penelope, go unanswered, he returns home early to see her. Penelope makes it clear that she does not wish to see him, leaving him quite distraught. In his room, Colin finds a love letter addressed to him, the traveling Bridgerton. He now has two goals this season; to get back into Penelope's good graces, and to find who wrote the letter. Penelope has goals this season as well; to find a husband, to get Eloise to forgive her, and to continue her role as Lady Whistledown.

They may have been friends once but his callous words decimated their relationship. Determined not to have anything to do with him, Penelope is ready to move on. But Colin isn't giving up, not at all. Friends or not, they are connected for life - and he intends to remind her of that. Spoilers for the first two minutes of S3 Polin Scene.

This story starts in season 3 episode 8 after Francesca's wedding, before the Butterfly Ball. As per the conversation between Polin at the Butterfly ball, it seems Colin was not staying with Pen in their house and she was all alone or they were apart even while being in the same house, it was not clear. I felt as though he had to be with her at such a time as a support and this is when Pen starts realising how lonely she is in this marriage. Here he is not staying with her.

Colin Bridgerton is back from a 6 month expedition for his derby tour; having to visit Eygpt, India, and even China to compete internationally. He is now back just in time for his eldest brother's wedding. While away his ex-best friend also returned from a year business trip in the States promoting her debut for her new book.
