Selene is a "non-essential" crew member on a generational spaceship that classifies artists as insane. She and her fellow non-essential artists are given a rather unique assignment: create art they find beautiful, with no angle of making it essential for life on board the ship. As they hone their art skills, Selene teams up with a troubled sculptor and learns just how dangerous art--and being non-essential--can be. This novella takes place on the spaceship Godspeed and deals with characters seen in the Across the Universe series. You can read it without reading the novels, although it might be more fitting to read it after A Million Suns.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: This is a companion story to ICE LIKE FIRE, the sequel to SNOW LIKE ASHES. I say "companion" as it parallels the beginning events of ICE LIKE FIRE -- and as such, you will find a few minor spoilers for ICE LIKE FIRE. If you are the sort of reader who screeches in horror at the thought of a spoiler of any kind, LOOK AWAY NOW. But if you are the sort of reader who flips through the pages of a book, perusing lines here and there before you've quite finished it yet...well, read on, dear rebel reader. Read on. *** SUMMARY: "She was part of Summer, and Summer was part of her, and this land wouldn't abandon her too." Ceridwen Preben, princess of Summer, has spent her life plotting against her brother, Simon, the Summerian king. Simon has embraced the ruling family's reputation for using their conduit to keep their subjects in a state of bliss, and has spent his reign slowly driving Summer into ruin, filling everyone with carelessness and letting them turn a blind eye to Summer's rampant -- and deadly -- slave trade. But Ceridwen refuses to let her kingdom disintegrate, and with the help of her fellow rebel-in-arms, Lekan, she hopes to undo Simon's lethal dealings. But when Ceridwen uncovers Simon's deadliest plot yet, she starts to realize just how deep magic runs -- and that even though her kingdom is one of sunlight, with light, there always comes shadows. *** The first part of this story will appear on Tuesday, September 8. Parts will continue to be uploaded every Tues/Thurs through October 8. Look for ICE LIKE FIRE, out October 13 from Balzer + Bray/HarperCollins!

You asked! You waited! And now -- Theron's point of view for FROST LIKE NIGHT! These chapters go hand in hand with the events of FROST LIKE NIGHT. For that reason, I've labeled them as they would go in the book: Chapter 2.5, Chapter 13.5, etc. **SPOILER WARNING** For those of you who have not read SNOW LIKE ASHES, ICE LIKE FIRE, or FROST LIKE NIGHT, well, you'll be in for a world of spoilers by reading this. But to each their own (I, personally, love spoiling myself, so if you too love spoilers, you're in good company).

After losing her father and nearly losing her life when their ship sank off the coast of Cornwall, Adelaide Hampton Parke is faced with a terrible dilemma. Her stepmother has demanded that they immediately set sail for New York but the very idea of stepping foot on board another ship and facing the uncertainty of a Transatlantic crossing leaves her paralyzed with fear. Not to mention that her relationship with her stepmother is contentious at best and she's been given only six months to return to New York and find herself a husband or be put out of the family's Park Avenue home to make her own way in the world. Salvation comes, unexpectedly, in the form of a telegram from Eldren Llewellyn a Welsh lord and the sole owner of a mining empire. He'd partnered with her father in multiple business ventures, and upon the man's death, proposed to Adelaide in order to spare her the ordeal of returning home in her stepmother's less than tender care. But as she travels to his remote estate in Snowdonia, Adelaide comes to realize that his ancestral home, Cysgod Lys, literally the Shadow Hall, is filled with secrets and dark things she cannot name. Fear is her constant companion and she begins to wonder if her new husband is her savior... or her doom. PLEASE NOTE: This work has been published at Amazon and is enrolled in Kindle Unlimited. Due to exclusivity restrictions with Kindle Unlimited, I could only leave a small sample of the story published elsewhere. If you'd like to continue reading it, please consider borrowing it from Amazon if you are a KU member or a Prime member. Thank you.

Carswell's Guide to Being Lucky is a short story written by Marissa Meyer or marissameyer22. If you sign up for her newsletter , she will send you a free copy, and I have helpfully separated the text into chapters, instead of a page that has a chapter right after one that just ended. I claim no rights to this story. Marissa Meyer wrote this book. I'm just trying to distribute the story so that more people can and will enjoy it.
