He was built to hurt, and she was made to break.
The room still trembled with the aftermath of his words, the silence after them more violent than the shouting had ever been. Arin stood by the window, arms wrapped tight around her like armor, though nothing could shield her from the way his voice had sliced through her.
"Don't bring Yejin into this, Arin."
Detached. Like she didn't matter. Like she was collateral in a war she didn't start.
It was always Yejin. It had always bemen Yejin.
The truth sat heavy in her chest, choking. She whispered it aloud, a confession to no one.
"But it was never not about her, was it?"
He didn't look back when he walked away. His retreat was slow, final. And as the door shut behind him, Arin realized she wasn't standing in a room anymore.
She was standing in wreckage.
