When Link returned home after failing to join the Knights of Hyrule, he is greeted by his family, only for the warm welcome to become that of fear. The sky above had become a violent blood red, while monsters began to spawn around them and the rest of Hateno Village. Link turned and looked out toward the direction of Hyrule castle, where an ominous cloudy creature had risen from it's depths. The Calamity had arrived, but vanished only a day later. It was found that the princess, with no hero at her side, had sacrificed her life to save those who remained. Three years had passed since then, and Link had become a shell of his former self, guilt having flooded him as something in his heart told him he could have made a difference. If only he had managed to become a knight... There was nothing he could do though, for it was all in the past. At least...that's what he believed.

Link charged into the Ganon's fortress, taking out monsters one after another, until he eventually reached the King of Evil's throne room. The battle against the evil king was intense, but at the end of it all, Link stood victorious. He headed toward a hovering crystal, ready to free the Princess of Hyrule from her containment, yet he soon realized his foot had been caught by something: a void, one that refused to release him, tugging him deeper into its depths. Knowing he couldn't be freed, Link makes a final choice in order to save his princess and his kingdom. Near the middle of winter, the land of Hyrule celebrates a special day, one that honors the gift of prosperity the Goddess Hylia graced them. However, the masses are distracted this year, for the prophecy of the Calamity Ganon's arrival had clouded their purity and joy with fear. With all eyes on the princess, constantly in prayer as she attempted to unlock the powers her blood held within to seal this impending calamity, the knight appointed at her side decides to give her a day of rest she desperately needs.
