The story follows the lives of Kim Jisoo, the "Ice Queen" and successor to the massive JK Group, and Kim Taehyung, a debt-ridden teacher. To secure her position as Chairwoman against her scheming cousins, Jisoo offers Taehyung a 2 billion won contract to play her devoted husband for one year. Taehyung, desperate to pay for his mother's life-saving cancer treatment, agrees to the "lie of the century".

Jisoo is a quiet maid living in the shadows of the palace. Prince Jungkook once escaped the palace as a child and met a girl who showed him kindness and freedom.
