His world is filled with anger
Her's is filled with sadness
His life is perfect
Her life is damaged
Conor Kavanagh was the quiet hurler of Tommen College, he knew he would never be a superstar like his brother, Rory, or his father, Johnny. He was born with the quiet ambiance of his mother, Shannon, and his younger sister, Caoimhe. He knew he would always be the disappointment in the family, even if his dad never admitted it. He has inherited his love of hurling from his uncle Joey, not rugby from his dad. When Conor looked in the mirror all he could see was the face of a killer, the uncanny resemblance between him and his grandfather, Teddy. He had the same blonde hair, same chocolate brown eyes, same anger.
Conor was scared of himself. He was scared of his desire to fight. He needed to punch something, to snap at someone. He solved problems with his fists, not with his words.
Alannah Landon was the broken girl, she was the one with ghosts, her dead brother, Finn, following her every waking move. She wasn't popular, didn't have a lot of friends, but everyone thought they knew her. Every time she walked down the hall people would stare at her, giving her their pity and solemn looks. Her parents were struck with grief, they had lost their favourite child, they blamed her for his death. In a way it was her fault, she was at a party that night, she hadn't answered the phone when he called. Maybe he would still be alive if she had picked up.
Alannah was scared of getting close to people, she didn't want to be blamed for anything else, not any more.
When the angry boy and sad girl meet it's a normal day. Conor had just gotten into a fight and was sent to detention in the art room, where Alannah spent most of her time.
He talks.
She listens.
