"When they were little, it was... kind of beautiful, actually. Two kids who'd never had anyone before, finding each other in the middle of a sterile lab? You'd see them curled up reading picture books, sharing food, laughing like normal kids. For a while, we really believed it was working. She grounded him. She'd calm his tantrums with a hug, a whisper. But now I think-"
(Pauses)
"Now I think she learned early that if she didn't soothe him, we'd all pay for it. That kind of conditioning-" (Shakes head)
