First book in a series of books. Hiccup leaves Berk when he is chosen to kill the Monstrous Nightmare. However after plenty of time has passed an unexpected turn of events forces him to confront his past head on.

March 1st. Hiccup. I am writing you letters. I am writing about what you will miss. I write about what is going on in the world when you are currently aren't living your life right at the moment. Why must this happen to you? I didn't want to believe what they said. You are in a coma. Again. You had to go into surgery. You didn't lose another limb. You had a collapsed lung. Fractured wrist. Stitches on you forehead. A few broken ribs. Your heart stopped. Three times in 24 hours. Do you know how much this scares me? One of these times, your heart will stop and the won't be able to start it. And I will hear about this and I won't know what to do. I won't know what to do with myself and I won't know how to process. You have to wake up, Hiccup. I need you with me. I feel lost without you here to reassure me that everything is going to be okay. When in reality, I break down while you lay on that bed. I won't know if you will make it. For I try to tell myself that you are going to be okay. Hiccup and Toothless left Berk thinking no one cared. Being the neglected child of Berk (despite his family, and being the heir to the village), Hiccup decided he'd had enough. He took Toothless and his most treasured belongings and high-tailed it out of there. When he runs into his long-lost mother, life looks up for Hiccup. He's found a place where he belongs. Meanwhile, on Berk, the village assumed Hiccup was dead by a Night Fury's doing and left it at that. Astrid and her friends, however, didn't think such. When a surprise trip overseas and an unfortunate turn of events allows the Berkians to find an odd nest in the middle of nowhere, they may prove that the lost heir to Berk isn't as dead as everyone thinks. //story takes a turn for the worse like halfway through bc i stopped editing it. also i wrote it when i was like 11-12
