I stared up at the sky at the stars. Everything bad happens to the best people. Well that was a little over dramatic, but that seems to be the case. I live in a small town with a population the size of an average high school here in America. We have a population of 1,000 people. That means that everyone knows each other and everyone talks about everyone else. Right now I am the talk of the town. About a week ago I had a seizure in front of the entire school. Then two days later I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. That's how you go from the most popular girl in high school who spreads the rumors to being the biggest rumor in the city. I wanted to run today. That's what I do. I run. I run to get out of all of my problems. I run to forget, but they said I can't run. At least not for few weeks. They told me I needed to be stronger, but how can I be strong if I have a tumor and can't run it off. I have been laying on the ground for a few hours because it is getting dark now. I hear some beeping. It must be the new neighbors. I knew they were moving in today so I was surprised that they had waited until the middle of the night to do it. I got up slowly so I didn't get light headed and lose my balance. I peeked around the corner of the house. I decided that the newcomers looked pretty harmless so I made a move to go and see if they needed any help. That's when I saw him. He was standing holding some boxes waiting for the door to be opened. He looked about my age. And he was beautiful. That may sound weird, but that was the only word to describe him.

'Except it meant Max's life crashed with mine and it was as If the sun faded and the night never left. It was a dark tunnel with no light at the end of it because everywhere Max went, darkness followed.' Clara Anderson and Max Elliot were acquaintances, or maybe as little to be considered as strangers, before the odd and long bus ride home in middle school. But now years have passed and Max isn't the crying boy on the bus anymore that was as clumsy as she was. Now he's the boy who she considers a best friend. A best friend who's hiding what really happened on that bus ride home. A best friend who has a whole history Clara doesn't know anything about. A boy she learns to view in a different light as they learn to fight their battles together.
