Dax is a lone wolf. He trusts no one, especially Lira, who welcomes him into her group of "rebels." But Dax doesn't commit. He thinks they're a waste of space. Plagued by visions and deja vu that feels just too real, he's convinced of only one thing: they're in some kind of game. The cheat code? Kill or be killed. Once, a very long time ago, there was a girl. She was Lucifer, the most beautiful fallen angel. She lied to me. Spat on me. Sneered in my face. But here I was with my butterfly net trying to catch her light. I hated my self. Why was I so fucking scared? So in the dead of night I went and killed that me. Then I shed her light like an old snake skin and watched it burn in a dumpster fire. Because she didn't deserve that kind of worship. She never deserved my tears. I refuse to wear her baggage.

To be an empath is to constantly question your hope for humanity. You learn how to love, to hate, to want, to fear. You learn of the pain behind behind every smile. It is the most heartbreaking and insightful tool to ever exist. Some say it is a curse. It takes time to to like it as a gift.

In isolation, each poem is a snapshot into the moving picture that makes up our lives. Together, the poems weave a narrative of the struggle, introspection, separation, and the eventual loss associated with the death of a dream.
