Genevieve Emilia Grant was born into a story she never asked to inherit.
Her father, Charles Grant, was a handsome, emotionally constipated Hartford businessman who made a habit of running from anything that hurt. Her mother, Vivian Sinclair-Emily Gilmore's younger sister-who died in childbirth. Emily Gilmore had begged Charles afterward. Begged to be part of her niece's life. But he refused-claiming the Gilmore world wasn't right for his daughter, when everyone knew the truth: being near anything that reminded him of Vivian was unbearable. Avoidance was his specialty. Self-preservation masquerading as principle.
Genevieve grew up far from the Gilmores, but their shadows still reached her. No one ever told Genevieve these things directly-Charles never spoke of the past at all-but Camille and the maids had sharp tongues and dull senses of discretion. Every marble hallway in the Grant estate carried gossip and no one, least of all Genevieve, was safe from the shrapnel. But at least she wasn't alone. She had her half sister, Louise. And Louise never treated her like half of anything.
As for college, she was accepted everywhere she applied-Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Brown, Columbia, Stanford.
She chose Yale. Just like Vivian
As it does, fate has other ideas, getting ready to throw her into the rest of her life, starting with Europe, a painting and a drunk Australian. But that's just the beginning...
Logan Huntzberger.
They were born into adjacent worlds, separated by old wounds and sharper family politics.
But summer ends.
Yale awaits.
And some collisions are inevitable.
