Olivia is the only sane person in her family…well relatively speaking. When the death of her grandfather sparks chaos in her family, it seems like only she can fix everything. But what to tackle first? Her crazy grandmother intent on joining a circus as a fortune teller, her ditsy cousin who is currently dating the enemy, the enemy (former best friend) who believes her family kills people for a living, or the mysterious man following her around? A dead professor stalks the campus, seeking revenge on those who dare taint the sacred nature of a beloved classic play. Renowned Shakespearean scholar Dr. Marshall Emerson whose specialty was the bard’s The Tempest could never be spotted walking the grounds of McMaster University without the precious 1861 folio edition of Shakespeare’s works clutched in his hands. Decades after his death, when McMaster University library and bookstore staff begin producing replica versions of the text on a newly acquired Espresso Book Machine, Emerson, who was also known as Professor Prospero, returns, intent to put a stop to this “desecration” of his precious text. This short story of approximately 6000 words originally appeared in the book CAMPUS CHILLS (2009) and was written by McMaster Graduate Kimberly Foottit and Mark Leslie, whose alter ego ran the Espresso Book Machine at the McMaster bookstore from 2008 until 2011.

This story wasn't written by me, but by my grandfather, Alan Gardner. I'm excited to share his story with Wattpad as I read through and edit it for the first time. ------- An English newspaperman, sent to Rome to cover a meeting of the English Princess and the Pope and to find what happened to a journalist who mysteriously disappeared, uncovers a Communist plot. "Recipe for an exciting book; one foreign correspondent in Rome, one missing colleague, one beautiful girl, and a vicious communist plot. Shake violently together till a chain reaction sets in. Result: another success for Mr. Gardner. This must be finished at a sitting." - The Spectator "A new spy novel that is sensationally thrilling." - Anthony Boucher, New York Times
