𝐁𝐎𝐎𝐊 𝐓𝐖𝐎 ⌖ 𝙨𝙖𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙚 𝙭 𝙘𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙨 𝙗𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙣. ❦ | 𝐔𝐑𝐁𝐀𝐍 𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 . ᶜʰʳⁱᵃᵐᵒⁿᵗᵉ ʳᵉᵃˡ ᵍʰᵉᵗᵗᵒ Five years ago, Iris walked away from the wreckage with blood on her hands & survival on her mind. Loving Jasiah had been like standing too close to a fire-warm at first, until the flames started to reach for her throat. When the law finally took him, she mourned him like someone dead, convinced that whatever they once shared was too dangerous to ever be resurrected. To save herself, she didn't just leave him behind-she buried the love entirely, believing some things had to be killed before they killed you. In the years that followed, Iris rebuilt. She built a life that was quiet, more structured, & way more safe with her husband & two growing children. A life where Jasiah Syncere Brown existed only in court records & steel bars. Prison was supposed to be a long sentence, guaranteed that the past would stay where it belonged. But the past didn't stay buried. Jasiah returned home years earlier than anyone expected, his arrival shattering the order Iris painstakingly built. But he didn't come back kind-he came back ruthless, upending everything in his path. Old wounds ripped open, & the man she once loved, the man she hated, the man she never truly escaped, was suddenly real again, standing back in the same city, back breathing the same air. "Domo, honey! I'm home!"

"You know how special you gotta be to change a nigga like me? Huh?" He tilted her head back to make her look at him, and a faint smile grew on her face as he wiped her cheeks. "My own grandparents couldn't do it for me and I loved them more than anything. You the one for me ma. That's why I ain't told you everything yet 'cause I don't wanna run you away. I need you." He laid his forehead against hers, gently kissing her lips. "Nobody will ever believe that King Von from O Block be crying to me like this." She smiled as she gazed into his red eyes, and he chuckled, nodding in agreement. "I ain't King Von wit' you. Just love." He kissed her cheek next, and her smile grew as her arms tightened around him for a warm hug.

"Morning, Mr. Serious," I say now, setting his usual cup on the table. I add two sugar packets because I can't help myself. He never uses them. He never even looks at them. But I like the idea of them sitting there, taunting him with sweetness. His eyes flick up to mine - stormy gray, the kind that make you feel like you're under interrogation for a crime you don't remember committing. "You should stop doing that." His voice is low, accented, like gravel dragged across velvet. Russian maybe? Or Italian. Or both. Either way, it does unholy things to my stomach. "Doing what?" I ask innocently, sliding the sugar closer to his hand. "That." His gaze drops to the packets. "I don't take sugar." I grin, all sunshine and sass. "You don't know that. Maybe one day you'll wake up and realize life's better with a little sweetness." ●・○・●・○・● Rafael Volkov doesn't do small talk. Or smiles. Or sugar in his coffee. As the mafia's underboss, he's built a reputation on silence, sharp suits, and an expression that could curdle milk. So of course, Lila Parker makes it her mission to crack him. The sunny diner waitress insists on slipping him extra sugar packets, calling him "Mr. Serious" behind the counter, and treating him like a normal guy instead of a walking red flag. He tells her to stop. She doesn't. He growls. She grins. And suddenly, his late-night coffee runs feel less like routine and more like... something he shouldn't want. The problem? In his world, affection is dangerous. Smiles get noticed. Weaknesses get used. And if Lila isn't careful, her little act of kindness might just paint a target on her back. Rafael swore he didn't have a sweet tooth. Turns out he was wrong. ●・○・●・○・● Word Count: 37,478

She's learning to trust. Together they're walking a line between danger and devotion. Where every laugh, every glance, every silence feels like more than it should. This isn't just a love story.
