Eddie has flashbacks to the night that Buck was struck by lightning during the games in Nashville.

What if there was a universe where Shannon left after Christopher's birth? After getting the news that his girlfriend does not want to be in their son's life, Eddie Diaz meets Evan Buckley in the hospital cafeteria of all places. They form a bond that neither of them can explain and become very involved in each other's lives. But what happens when Eddie has to ship out for his tour and Buck volunteers to take care of Chris? What happens when the letters Eddie has been sending to them stop coming and Buck instead gets a letter which leaves Eddie's condition unclear? "Buck and Eddie have been dating for three months now, but they've been keeping it to themselves and Christopher. So when the 118 brings up Eddie's love life, he has a panic attack and Buck comes to the rescue. Eddie eventually comes out to them and reveals his and Buck's relationship."

Buck falls into a deep depression where he attempts to kill himself, sending Eddie a goodbye text because he's alone and everyone hates him now, so there's no point in living any longer. Eddie races to stop Buck and keep him alive.

After Buck gets kidnapped, he gets addicted to his pain meds. When Eddie finds him relapsing, he takes care of his boyfriend by holding him through his tears and being there for him in any way he can.
