The day Douma dies is the day he feels for the first time. He'd do it all over again just to feel that emotion. So he does. - Douma is given a second chance at life. In his pursuit to keep the timeline the same as it was before so he could meet Shinobu and feel emotion again, he messes a few things up. Relationships shift, discoveries are made and he might be feelings things he hadn't felt the first time around. But the road taken shouldn't matter too much as long as Shinobu is waiting at the end, right?
