Nico attempts a long-distance shadow-travel to visit Hazel, but his powers falter due to lingering exhaustion and the sheer emotional toll of the wars. Instead of Camp Jupiter, he lands in a dark, unfamiliar alleyway in a city unlike any he's known: Gotham. The sheer density of human despair and darkness in Gotham is overwhelming, almost physically painful for him.
