After the unfortunate events at her mama's ball, Penelope had decided it was time for her to leave London. As she heard Colin uttered disparaging words about her towards his friends, Penelope had lost her respect towards the man she had silently loved all these years. As if that is not enough, her dearest friend Eloise had found out her identity as Lady Whistledown and had broken off their friendship not without saying harsh and hurtful words towards her. Now without reason to be fond of high society, Penelope Featherington decided to leave the country and settle down for good in Scotland. Until an accident happens.

Penelope takes off into the night to deliver a column during her family's ball, and nothing goes as planned.

"Something was missing" - that's how I felt at the end of the third season. In the end, I can't come to terms with what we were deprived of, so I decided to rewrite the script the way we would have liked to see it.

Before Debling proposed to her, Colin finally realized his feelings for Penelope. He wanted to confess his love to her but didn't have time. He couldn't catch up with her carriage as she left the ball after getting engaged to Debling. In despair, he left London and went on a journey, plunging into depression. Several months passed.

Colin continues his tour with a trip to Italy. However, when his letters to his dear friend, Penelope, go unanswered, he returns home early to see her. Penelope makes it clear that she does not wish to see him, leaving him quite distraught. In his room, Colin finds a love letter addressed to him, the traveling Bridgerton. He now has two goals this season; to get back into Penelope's good graces, and to find who wrote the letter. Penelope has goals this season as well; to find a husband, to get Eloise to forgive her, and to continue her role as Lady Whistledown.
