It's been 3 years since Nya technically died. Jay's been grieving. He blames himself for not catching her in time. When she fell from the bounty after a surprise attack by some unknown people, Jay tried to catch her. He failed. When they went to look for her, all the ninja found was a ripped blue bandanna.
