But Darkstar is still convinced that he should do more to ensure the safety of ShadowClan. Peace remains in the clans, but secrets are discovered between Shadepaw, Blackpaw, and Emberpaw that throw the peace into jeopardy. Meanwhile, the prophecy remains for the three ShadowClan apprentices; Three kits will be born with the abilities of all the Clans. They will rise up and conquer the other Clans to feel blood under their claws. Only the white bird can be trusted. As the three littermates draw closer to being warriors, tragedy brings them closer together. Darkstar begins to think that the prophecy is wrong, but the most unlikely cats rise up to fulfill it. Young Pricklefur has fallen in love with a rogue she-cat named Winter. When Winter unknowingly races onto the Thunderpath and is killed Pricklefur becomes depressed. Unable to do his duties he wanders away from Windclan. Then Pricklefur finds something that would change his life. Forever.
