Before the Time War, the Doctor was married much to the protests of Gallifrey's High Council and Royal Family. The Doctor stole the Princess away from their home planet to travel across time and space for centuries, escaping their civic responsibilities. They unsuccessfully tried to stay out of trouble and out of sight, always at risk of the Princess being recognized.
