Unknown to Palpatine, one large squadron of Battle Droids was able to resist the shutdown signal. In the possibility that Palpatine would betray him, Count Dooku instructed his secret apprentice, Jack Trevelyan, to oversee a contingency plan, to reconstruct the Droid Army and a secret project: Project Rebirth. Hidden in a secret facility on the remote planet, Virmire, located in the Unknown Regions.
