And the only thing I knew for sure, is that I never wanted to hear my nickname spoken in defeat again.
That couldn't be the last time I heard it.
"Stop that. Fight me. Beg for your life. Something!" I pushed the gun against his temple. His head lolled to the side but returned to its original position. He still wouldn't look up at me as a few stray tears rolled down his face. He trained his gaze on the candle, making his brown eyes glow.
"Three hundred and twenty. They were mothers, fathers, and friends. Every single one of them is dead because of me." He murmured. "Their families grieve because I made sure they thought we were dead."
This wasn't how this was supposed to go. He was Bellamy Blake, when threatened, he fights back. His life was the only thing he truly cared about. Cutting corners and profiting regardless of the cost. He had become so small and simple that I could define him with only those characteristics. He was as shallow and transparent as the most common puddle. His death was an easy exchange because he lacked basic human decency.
He acted purely on impulse, with no extra forethought. He didn't care how his actions affected others. He had to be.
His usually demanding, stern voice wabbled. "I killed hundreds but hurt thousands. You grieve because of me. You hurt because of me. I made you into this."
