In the distant future of 20XX, a specialized headgear called the "Nerve Gear" is released to the public, designed to immerse the user in hundreds of Virtual Reality Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (VRMMORPG) using their five senses. One in particular stood out from its peers, an upcoming game called "Sword Art Online" that attracted the attention of millions; yet, only 10,000 copies have been sold. What looks to be a wonderful world spawned from the genius mind of Kayaba Akihiko, the creator of the Nerve Gear, however soon turns out to be an elaborate ruse since on the first day of public access, players discover they cannot log out, as the game creator is holding them captive unless they reach the 100th floor of the game's tower and defeat the final boss. Joining the guild leader, Momonga, you and him decide to stay logged in up until the servers are shut down and you are forcefully logged out. However, even after the timer hits zero, you aren't logged out, and instead are now your in-game character, stuck in the Tomb of Nazarick with Momonga in the same position, but that's the farthest thing from strange as you and him rediscover a whole new world outside of Yggdrasil with the the help of the now sentient NPCs that roam the great tomb. Author's Note: For the heteromorphic monster your character is based on, it will be based on the very first Gojira design.
