Sci-fi novella about a savant scientist of the late 21st century who finds himself unwittingly chosen by a 4-dimensional ethereal being, a time lord known as the "Guardian", to help him prevent an apocalyptic future when most of mankind is wiped out by sentient parasitic symbionts.
