It all started with a virus. Gracie May survived in the apocalypse relying on her parents. Now that they're dead, she has to go on without them. But not entirely alone, either. Charlotte Rundelle saved her that day from the same Screecher who killed her parents. Charlotte may seem like she doesn't care, but her story says otherwise. Similar to Gracie, her father died in the apocalypse, leaving her to care for herself. She's a loner, and has been living in the dead world for sixteen years. She has to trust Gracie if either of them were going to live, but for Charlotte, it will be hard. Can the girls find the cure and survive, or will they get each other killed?
