Kiyotaka Ayanokouji, tras escapar de la white room con la edad de 16 años y obtener su libertad de momentanea, estaba debatiéndose si entrar a la escuela de crianza avanzada metropolitana de Tokio, una institución educativa apartada en su propia isla artificial que se mantenía excluida de la ciudad y que podría facilitar su libertad, sin embargo, esa escuela tendría demasiados pruebas y desafíos que a su vez no serían problema para el, limitarían la vida pacífica que este deseaba, por lo que tras investigar otras opciones, encuentra la preparatoria Katagiri, una preparatoria que también se encontraba en tokio y estaba por debajo de la media en comparación con demas preparatorias, un lugar perfecto para poder pasar desapercibido y vivir una vida tranquila al menos por un tiempo.
