"Mommy! Mommy! Look! Look!" Stella bounced up and down, compressing snow underneath her boots. Her orange snowsuit made her look like a tangerine. "I made a snow girl!" "Mom! Mom! Look at me! I'm going to make a snow fort!" Patrick waved his gloved hands in the air to get Lara's attention. "Yes! Yes! I love your snow girl. Great idea. We need a snow fort." Lara grinned at her children, thankful to have the week off from work. She needed the vacation time to unwind at home. The holidays were finally over with. She hadn't experienced very much quality time with her husband and kids since Thanksgiving. Between work, shopping, decorating, and all the other meaningless nonsense that had been occupying her time, Lara knew her family was missing her almost as much as she was missing them.

Jill pounded the wall that separated her apartment from her new neighbor. Her feet were sore and her back was aching. She'd worked another double shift at the restaurant. She'd been screamed at, had her tush pinched, and one of her tables had completely stiffed her. She needed to unwind. Was it too much to ask for a little peace and quiet? Jill rearranged the plush pillows that surrounded her on her well-worn sofa and turned the volume up on her TV. She still couldn't hear the news over her neighbor's music and she was getting angrier by the second. She didn't care if they were new or not. It was ten o'clock at night, and Jill had enough of the noise. She pounded on the wall again. "Hey! Would you mind keeping it down?" she shouted.

This is the story behind Lesley's comment in Chapter 14, of the first book in The Williamson Vampires series. "But you must have seen something," Lesley said. "I was talking on the phone last night about you. My friend Mandy said her brother's best friend's cousin saw a spirit in the woods near your property line. She said there are at least a dozen ghosts living on your property. I wouldn't be able to sleep in a house that I knew was haunted." Lesley gave an involuntary shutter.
