Lemurkit and Turtlekit are born to their mother, Brightshine, during the most horrific time in clan history. The reign of Morningstar casts a shadow over all things happy and good, and the rise of BloodClan put a damper on cheerfulness and smiles in the clan. Kits born with any weakness are killed, like Lemurkit's littermate, Rainpatter, was, whom Brightshine named for the pattering of the rain that fell the night she buried him. And when Lemurkit turns out blind, Brightshine is determined to hide it. But soon, secrets start to surface. Lemurkit has no father. Her mother refuses to speak of him. And Lemurkit has strange dreams of pools of blood, and a strange cat that always repeats the same message: "Go fulfill your destiny..." What will become of the clan? Sagepaw, Nightpaw, and Timberpaw have all choosen their destinies but there has been an interference. StarClan's prophecy comes in nearer as the three ThunderClan apprentices grow older and more mature. Threats from the Dark Forest hang grimly over the thoughts of the StarClan warriors as the watch the Clans go about their days oblivious to the pending time when the shadowy cats shall strike again. Another danger has fallen across the Clan cats. Bramble, a murderous rogue, is preparing to overthrow the Clans. Was the three cat's choice in their path the right one? Or had they choosen the way to their inevitable doom.

It has been a while since the Clans won the battle against the Dark Forest. ThunderClan is prospering under Bramblestar's leadership and the rest of the Clans have been thriving too. But a strange black liquid is covering ShadowClan's territory, killing and poisoning their prey, and ShadowClan's leader, Blackstar, decides to steal prey from ThunderClan to keep his Clan from starving. Bramblestar originally intended to attack ShadowClan, but his sister, who had fled from the ShadowClan camp when she heard that Blackstar intended to steal ThunderClan's prey, begged him not to attack them. As ShadowClan keeps pushing farther past the boundaries, will Bramblestar chooose loyalty to his sister or loyalty to his Clan?
