I realized it the moment I saw her.
The first time my eyes found her, something in me shifted-something deep, something undeniable. My heart whispered what my mind couldn't yet understand: She's mine.
Not in possession, not in claim, but in the way the earth belongs to the sky, in the way the tide belongs to the moon. As if, without knowing it, I had been waiting for her all along.
She didn't notice me. Why would she? To her, I was just another face in a world full of strangers. But to me, she was the only one who mattered.
I watched her from a distance, hoping-maybe foolishly-that one day she would turn, that she would see me the way I saw her. That she would hear the unspoken words that lived in my chest.
But she never did.
And still, my heart insists, again and again, She's mine. Even when she never was. Even when she never will be.
And the worst part? She never even knew.
